Living in Mill Hill
Mill Hill is much more than history and architecture, it is a close knit, diverse, and civically active neighborhood. In the 1960s, Mill Hill was saved from certain destruction by aggressive redevelopment. It survived because of the vision and courage of private citizens and enlightened public officials, and benefitted from federal funding that enabled critical infrastructure improvements.
Today Mill Hill is a strong community with a clear and promising future. It is a neighborhood in the old-fashioned sense, where most people get to know many of their neighbors. Here's a sample...

Joe and Danielle Mill Hill is truly what a neighborhood should be - friendly people that watch out for each other. When we came to Mill Hill, we were looking for a quiet and safe neighborhood for our kids and an area convenient to many amenities. One of the perks of living in the area is the proximity to the Philadelphia Italian Market. We enjoy cooking at home and having access to a vast selection of fresh meats and produce is essential. -- Joe and Danielle

Geoff and Tracey Mill Hill is a wonderful place to live and work. We've had a productive life here for over a decade. Mill Hill functions as a real neighborhood, where you can live as you please and have as much or as little privacy as you require at any time. We love the park, the quiet mornings, and good neighbors. -- Geoff and Tracey Geoff and Tracey are artists, working out of a studio in their home, and exhibit their work in galleries in Connecticut and New York. |

Peter, Lisa, Kasper, and Ruedi We've chosen to live in Mill Hill because it is a truly wonderful urban setting for my husband and me to live and raise our two young sons. We've played in the nearby park everyday, have access to the wonders of nature by the Assunpink Creek and the Delaware River. We also enjoy our everyday option to walk, scooter, or bicycle most places we go. In the midst of all the red bricks, we can also have a "green" lifestyle. -- Lisa I like Mill Hill because I can walk to work. I also like the historic buildings and enjoy the casual interactions with residents around the neighborhood. -- Peter It's easy to make friends because there's a lot of nice people in the neighborhood. -- Kasper I like living near the park and seeing all the people out walking their dogs. -- Ruedi Lisa is founder and chair of the City Smiles program. Peter and Lisa have lived in Mill Hill for close to 20 years. Peter is executive director of New Jersey Future, a statewide research and policy group advocating a smarter way to grow. Kasper and Ruedi have lived in Mill Hill all of their lives. |

Jon When I bought my house overlooking the Creek and the Park in 2000, I didn't know anything about Mill Hill other than it was the name of the school I went to in England 75 years ago! I soon discovered that it is a wonderfully diverse community of people who care about each other, their children, and the wider world of city, state, nation, and planet. As a working-from-home professional photographer and author of a dozen books, I am proud to be part of the Trenton Renaissance spearheaded by Passage Theatre, Classics Bookshop, Cafe Ole and its weekly Saturday Salon, the Trenton Film Society, the Trenton Cycle Revolution, and many other creative activities all taking place within easy walking and biking distance of where I live. -- Jon Jon's photo was taken in his backyard garden by Michael Mancuso. |
